Selective Mutism Intensives

I'm back from the 2026 Selective Mutism Association conference and full of fresh ideas, as always! I believe I've now met all of the top intensive providers in the country, so I want to explain more about this concept for those new to the SM world...

If you have ever tried to find a professional who has even heard of Selective Mutism (SM), let alone knows how to do treatment,, you probably had a point in your search at which you had steam coming out of your ears. Although SM is not a rare condition, there are few providers qualified to intervene and support families. There may not be a provider in someone's home state at all, let alone within a drivable distance. Because of this needs gap, many specialty centers offer "intensives" in which families can travel and receive up to 40 hours of SM treatment in a week. There are several great options in cities such as New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and Miami.

I have either sent families to intensives or had them work with me after completing one many times. I have never been involved in an intensive myself and there was no need because I offered weekly therapy for SM.

After attending this year's conference and learning there is such a high continued need for care in many states, and now that I have moved to a new state and region, I have decided to offer intensive-like treatment.
